Already to Confucius ' and Buddhas times, thus over about 500 v. Chr.  Loewenhuendchen were mentioned. The mythischen excessive quantity after, Buddha was accompanied by small lions, which transformed with danger to large lions and defended it against its enemies.

One of the most well-known representations of painters and sculptors,
is the precious "Fo" dog.

A work of art in form of a small dog, which resembles a lion, likewise a kite or an ape.

"Fo" is the Chinese discussion for Buddha.

In China the Loewenhuendchen was holy and by own servants was guarded and protected, who had to be responsible again with their life for the well-being being issued of their favorites. The breed and attitude were exclusively the imperial ruling family reserved.  For Nichtadelige it meant death to possess such a Loewenhuendchen. Also the theft entailed the death penalty.
The last empress Tzu Hsi loved the Pekingesen and operated   a complex cult around their favourites. It was it also, which recorded the description of race   in poetic form and determined thus the zuechterische line. In the year 1860, when British troops the emperor palace in Peking stormed,
the imperial family gave the instruction to kill all Palasthuendchen
thus none of them into the hands this "strange devil" (with it the European was meant) falls. Soldiers found five precious Loewenhuendchen  to their surprise
and they carried forward as war booty to England.
With these five Pekingesen it concerned so-called Sleeve or Aermelhuendchen and is the ancestors of the race world-wide.
One of these five, a gescheckte dog
of general if Dunne was handed over at Queen Viktoria as gift, which her "Looty", - booty -, called.

A picture of Looty, is to be admired still today in Windsor Castle.

Later further Pekingesen came over normal channels from Peking, and the race achieved fast general popularity and respect.

The first Pekingesen gave it then starting from 1900 in Germany.
Hardly a race is as remarkable as these.
Each particular of these small Asians is unique in his peculiarity and        in his nature.
It is very adaptive and can learn - if it it wants - small feats.
If it thereafter is not, also nothing goes!
It is self-confident and self-willed a small, fearless Draufgaenger,
It appears quite cooperatively, if its desires and rights is respected and  it is not rumkommandiert.
It is very anhaenglich, and this attachment can itself up to
extreme jealousy increase. So that it does not develop to the Tyrannen,
it needs an affectionate in addition, consistent education.
It can be accepted because of his small size, adaptability and robustness everywhere with.
Also, you with a Pekingesen a companion, that simply  always is there for you, without being importunate, have  little understanding for the with difficulty transparent asiatic soul.

The Pekingese is an unusual dog for unusual humans, and always remembers you, not it, but you selected him to your companion.

  Legend

How and when the Pekingese originated is unclear. But an old,
Particularly beautiful legend says that once a disciple Buddahs for prayer and meditation in the jungles pulled back. He was the language of the animals understand

It said the lion: "Oh, I would gladly do so! "
"Would you want all your strength and sacrifice climb down on the stage
The lowest among the animals, but in order to win? "Said the holy man then replies the Lion:" Yes, actually I would. "
"Then your desire to be heard," said the hermit and lapsed into a prayer,
The force was so much that it is the lion
Dahinschwinden settled until the size of the Silberäffchens wanted.
"Are you still feel the same," said the Saints, "now that you
See how small and vulnerable you are now? "
"Yes, I am convinced if she loves only me."
"In fact," said the holy man, "that is what I call true love and
Your steadfastness is rewarded. Although your greatest strength
Have lost, shalt thou boldness and your royal dignity.
Hunger in the future, you will no longer be forced to hunt for food
Your children will be prepared on the tables of this great world.
This will help you to be the cheerful mood of the small Äffchen,
Neither the concerns still plague hardship and the happy here on earth to live. "
